Is this only for guests with a disability?

The hotel sells it as a room type like any other, and it does not say it is reserved. Our own view: if you do not need the roll-in shower, leave this room for someone who does. There are very few hotel rooms near Port Perry, and an accessible one is not something a traveller who needs it can easily find elsewhere on the island.

What does "accessible" cover here?

The room sheet names the bathroom with a roll-in shower. It does not list grab bars, a shower seat, bed height, a lowered peephole, visual alarms or the width of the doors. That does not mean they are missing; it means they are not published. Before you travel, ask the hotel directly for the features you rely on, and get the answer in writing. If you send a request through our form, write the specifics in the notes and our desk will ask on your behalf.

What about the rest of the building?

The operator's October 2026 update says all property entrances at Great Blue Heron "remain open and fully accessible"; that was written during a labour dispute, so we read it as "you can get in", not as a disability audit. The company-wide accessibility plan commits to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and to training staff on accessible customer service. Those are policy statements rather than room details, so we treat them as context, not as a promise about a particular door. Parking is self-park and free; the hotel does not publish the number of accessible spaces.

Is the suite accessible too?

Yes, on paper. The King Suite is also listed with an accessible bathroom and roll-in showers, plus a separate powder room. If two people travel with a carer, or you simply want more space to move a wheelchair, the suite at 696 square feet is worth asking about. See the King Suite.

Can a service animal come?

Yes, and the hotel does not charge its pet fees for service animals, though it may charge the cleaning fee if there is soiling or damage. Service animals are also allowed on the gaming floor, where pets are not. The full pet policy.
