Who writes this

About us: one island, one hotel, checked line by line

We are a small independent team that writes about one place in depth rather than a hundred places in passing. We started this site in 2026.

Why only one hotel?

Because the questions people ask before a weekend here are specific. Can we bring a dog that weighs 45 lb? Can our teenagers wander while we watch the show? How long is the drive on a Friday? A list of fifty hotels cannot answer those. A guide to one can, and it can say where the answer is missing.

How do we check facts?

We read the hotel's and the operator's own pages first, then official sources around them: the Township of Scugog and its tourism office, Durham Region, the transit operator, the First Nation's own website. Trade press comes next, and an encyclopedia only as a secondary source, labelled as such. Every page ends with the list of sources we read and the date. Distances come from a routing model on open map data and are marked as model times.

When sources disagree, we print the disagreement. The hotel has 116 rooms on the operator's list; an older encyclopedia entry says 100. The meeting rooms hold 15 people on one official page and 20 on another. We would rather show you both than pick the convenient number.

What will we never do?

  • Invent reviews, guests, quotes or experts.
  • Print a price without a date and a source; in practice we quote prices only in a written reply to a request.
  • Describe casino games, offers or promotions. This is a hotel guide.
  • Pretend to be the hotel. We are not, and every page says so.

What about the pictures?

They are illustrations in a cyanotype style, made for this site, not photographs of the hotel. We label each one. For photographs of the real rooms, look at the hotel's own page.

How do we reach you?

By email at hello@scugogislandescape.com, or through the request form if it is about a stay. Corrections are especially welcome; we check them against the source and update the page with the new date.
