SnowWinterIce huts, a town rink, two ski hills nearby
Lake Scugog freezes and fills with ice-fishing huts. In 2025–26 the township ran a 40 by 80 foot outdoor rink at the Joe Fowler Baseball Diamond downtown, with a holiday market on weekends in partnership with the North Durham Chamber of Commerce; Great Blue Heron was among its sponsors. The hotel lists Dagmar and Lakeridge ski resorts, both about 35 minutes away in our model.
MaySpringThe museum reopens in May
Scugog Shores Museum Village opens for general admission in May. The farms wake up, and the marsh along the causeway turns from brown to green. A quieter time for a lake weekend.
JulJulyCanada Day, the powwow, movie nights
On 1 July 2026 the township held its Canada Day in Palmer Park with a morning parade, live music, a kids' zone and fireworks over Lake Scugog at 10 p.m. The Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation Powwow is held on the third weekend of July every year. In 2026 the township showed outdoor movies in Palmer Park on 22 July and 5 August.
AugSummerTheatre in a tent, boats, festivals
Theatre on the Ridge plays under its tent at the museum, boats go out from the island marina and the town's summer festivals fill the waterfront; the encyclopedia mentions Highland Games, dragon boat races and a street festival. Check each organiser for the year's dates.
SepLabour Day weekendThe Port Perry Fair
The Port Perry Fair, run by the agricultural society for well over a century, is held on Labour Day weekend. In 2026 its concerts were on Friday 4 September and its horse show on Monday 7 September. Expect a full town and a full hotel.
OctAutumnCorn mazes, pumpkins, the studio tour
Farms open corn mazes and pumpkin fields; Applewood's current farm update mentions both. The Lake Scugog Studio Tour runs once a year. And autumn is when The Nest's free tribute nights pick up, as November 2026 shows.
When is the quietest time to come?
We cannot measure occupancy, so this is reasoning, not data. Weeknights outside summer, away from show Saturdays and long weekends, are likely to be calmer and easier to book. If you want the town busy and the lake full of boats, come in July or August. If you want the island to yourselves, try a weekday in late spring or late autumn.
